VOD GROWING BIGGER BY THE DAY

The integration of TV and internet is surely giving birth to revolutionary high breeds like the VOD (Video On Demand) services that have taken over like nothing short of a rage for the people who simply swear by it. If there is the IPTV Youview that is dominating the market big time, then the other leading broadcasters like Sky and Virgin have also come up with VOD services of their own.

Sky has already started with its Sky Anytime Plus VOD and even Virgin Media is out with its TiVo presentation. Amidst all this there are indie film makers who are trying to make the fullest use of this platform since they majorly have to deal with budget constraints. This is since they are getting lesser and lesser theatrical releases and DVD sales. One may as well see signs of this already beginning to happen. Weinstein Co purchased as many as 25% stakes in Starz Media which was got from Liberty Media Corp. An entrepreneur, Mark Cuban owns an independent and relatively small Magnolia Pictures. Even he is trying his hands out with the VOD format. They have actually potently released films on the VOD format before even the film sees hitting it to the theaters. The company is thus looking at doing so more and more in the coming times.

Looking at the combined growth in market shares of the top six studios, it has not been as impressive as it should have been. People spending on Theatre tickets as well as purchasing DVDs are going down in numbers. At the same time, Apple Inc iTunes Stores or for that matter even Amazon.com Inc. has seen a growth of a solid 16% in 2010 and touched the $683 million mark. For once, it can be safe to say that the production houses are looking at getting greater revenues from the medium of VOD on the near future.

Car Dealers excited as Car Sales show Positive signs of return

The biggest car show of the United States, the leader of all – “North American International Auto Show (NAIS)” – The Detroit motor show 2010 is back this year with a very different spark as compared to the past few years which showed no signs of excitement due to recession leading to low car sales. But this year the scenario was very different. All the car dealers were seen celebrating as they have all returned to good form. Customer confidence is back as the nation’s economy is going up again. The entire show had a magic in air with stylish women posing with their uneasy shoes in the vast display stands.

But your sight would immediately shift to the perfect car models on display at the stands. There were many models on display. We first caught a glimpse of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat on display. Also, we were content after looking at the futuristic Porshe. The one on display was the 918 RSR Hybrid Racer which has two electric motors on the front of each wheel. Now that electric car would be really POWERFUL.

The others on the similar electric segment were the Toyota Hybrid minivan which Toyota launches after the world- leading success of its Toyota Hybrid. Ford was also not left behind as it announced plans to launch three new electric vehicles and employ 7000 US workers in the next two years. Electric vehicles are expected to make up to 10% of the total sales by 2020.
In total, car sales seem to be going strong with sales increasing to up to 11% in the US in the year 2010. By 2014, the sales are expected to reach a little above 90 million as compared to the figure of 60 million back in 2003.
